QUICK LINKS: History | Purpose Statement | Core Values

The facility is not only a drop in centre, but is also utilised by KBC Youth Group, various youth forums,
playgroups, Kerang High School, and the KBC Church family.
Ten years ago some members of the Kerang Baptist Church saw a need for a Youth Facility to provide an environment that promotes healthy living and well being for the local youth in the region.
A year later the Powerhouse Youth Facility was initiated as a centre for the local youth. The facility had a kitchen area that served hot food, drinks etc. It also had a rock climbing wall, two pool tables, lounge area, game consoles and a table tennis table.
Eight years ago an extension was added and a larger lounge area and games room resulted.
Seven years ago the Federal Government supported the facility by providing funding through the Networking the Nation Program, and an Internet Café was installed. An air-hockey table and soccer table have been added to the games available through donations to the facility.
Two years ago both State and Federal funding through the Victorian Community Support Grants and the Federal Regional Partnerships Program was obtained. This enabled the removal of an old house in front of the Powerhouse building which was blocking the venue’s view from Wyndham Street. This funding also enabled the construction of a basketball half-court with lighting, a decking area at the front of the building to enable a cafe style outlook with shade sails, heaters and outdoor furniture. It also funded extra signage at the front of the premises, extra storage area, and landscaping along Wyndham Street.
Powerhouse is a drug and alcohol free facility. The facility aims to address the significant issues youth are currently experiencing such as isolation and a lack of safe entertainment venues, and addressing youth mental and physical health. There is a need to reach out to youth in this current social and economic climate we are experiencing in rural Australia. The facility aims to support, encourage, and provide a safe, loving and caring environment for all people that visit the facility regardless of socio-economic status.
Powerhouse exists to provide a safe drug and alcohol free drop in centre for high school aged youth where;
• they can learn and have fun.
• healthy peer and adult mentor relationships can be established and developed.
• Godly values are promoted,
• Young people and their families matter to God (Luke 15). Our motivation is to be Christ’s motivation; love- unconditional acceptance (John 4:8).
• As part of Gods creation, each young person is inherently valuable and will therefore be treated with respect, thereby reflecting the love of Christ.
• Living life to the full – healthy bodies don’t need drugs (including alcohol and tobacco).
• A commitment to the specific needs of rural youth.
• A commitment to excellence (1 Corinthians 3:13; 10;31). God deserves the best that we can offer. This includes evaluation, accountability, and critical review.
• A team approach to ministry (Mark 6;7a).
• Creativity and relevance (1 Corinthians 9:19-23).
• Healthy relationships are an integral factor in the social, spiritual, and emotional development of young people.
• Prayer makes a difference.
The centre plays a vital role in the health and well being of youth and through this facility youth can be supported,
encouraged, and given direction for their lives. Youth are encouraged to use this facility as a meeting place.
